A note from the NARAL Pro-Choice VA team on what’s next

Dear friends,

Shock. Anger. Heart wrenching grief. These are the emotions I and everyone here on the NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia team have gone through in cycles since Tuesday’s election results.

But I know we are not alone – and I hope you do not feel alone either. We will keep our heads high and our hearts full as we stand together for our values of freedom, equality, and dignity.

We will support one another and get ready for two very big opportunities next year: January’s General Assembly session and November’s statewide election for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general.

Sign up to volunteer with us to help stop anti-choice attacks, pass pro-active reproductive health care legislation, and elect pro-choice leaders we can trust in 2017.

No doubt, we will have our work cut out for us both federally and here in Virginia for reproductive rights and health care. Between Trump’s statement that women should be “punished” for having abortions and Pence’s anti-choice record as a governor, we know the agenda they and their state-level allies will pursue.

However, I can tell you the pro-choice movement here in Virginia is strong and only getting stronger with your support.

Our two endorsed candidates in state races – Mike Mullin in the House of Delegates District 93 special election and Levar Stoney in the Richmond City mayoral race – both prevailed over anti-choice opponents with the support of our members and volunteers. NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is focused on building pro-choice political power from the ground up, and victories like these are a positive step forward.

Thank you for your fierce support of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and our work to ensure reproductive freedom is a reality for ALL Virginians.

Let’s reflect on Secretary Clinton’s words today: “Never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it.”
