On this edition of Meet the Extremist Running for Office, I present you with the man who is taking dogmatism to new levels: Mr. E.W. Jackson! Jackson is a fiery pastor who likes to preach about the “ickiness” of homosexuality and African American’s “slavish devotion” to the Democratic Party. When he is not preaching, he is advocating for abstinence only sex education, protesting advertisements for safe sex, and shaming single mothers.
What’s his guilty pleasure, you ask? Twitter! The reverend has used the social media device to expose the truth about the anti-American Obama administration and the NAACP’s racist arguments. As much as I would love to keep telling ya’ll about this man’s courageous work, he is far more eloquent then I am. Instead of doing him a disservice, I will let him speak for himself:
“We cannot turn a blind eye to the mass slaughter of unborn children…To kill babies for our convenience is the equivalent of an idolatrous offering to the god of “sexual license”. It is no different than in times past when pagans offered their babies on an altar of fire to assure their own good fortune.”
“I wholeheartedly support the comparison of abortion with slavery.”
“These women [who have abortions] are often confused, misinformed and uninformed about the implications and consequences of their actions.”
“I would not support the Paycheck Fairness Act under any circumstances. It is bad legislation based on a false premise.”
“[These laws] add nothing to the dignity and equality of women. In fact, it may make some businesses leery of hiring women for fear of the litigation that may eventually result.”
“These people are out to transform the culture. And they believe that sexuality is how everybody ought to be defined. And that means sexual freedom, sexual license to do whatever you want to do. And I know their people say, well, ‘It’s unfair to associate homosexuality with pedophilia or some of these other previsions.’ But I believe that there is a direct connection, because what they really want is absolute sexual freedom.”
“They want to destroy the very faith which established this nation, it’s very foundation, because it is an affront to them and they want a sexually amoral society remade in their image.”
“When one hears the word meditation, it conjures an image of Maharishi Yoga talking about finding a mantra and striving for nirvana. … The purpose of such meditation is to empty oneself. … [Satan] is happy to invade the empty vacuum of your soul and possess it…Beware of systems of spirituality which tell you to empty yourself. You will end up filled with something you probably do not want.”
Now I know what you are thinking: is this guy for real? I am here to assure you that yes, E.W. Jackson really IS an anti-choice extremist who would like nothing better than to make all of the decisions about your reproductive rights. And it’s a good thing we have him looking out for us! Before I heard his impassioned words I was under the perception that I was the one who best understood my life and my needs. I feel so much better knowing that E.W. Jackson is ready to dictate all of my choices.
In all seriousness, electing E.W. Jackson to the lieutenant governors position would have dire consequences. This past session anti-choice representatives in Richmond tried to downplay their extremism in an election year, but we know that they will be back in full force next year. With a radical LG as the tie-breaking vote, the senate will be able to push through even more dangerous pieces of legislation that will strip reproductive healthcare access from thousands of Virginians. There is too much at stake to write this man off…we must get organized, get fired up, and get to the polls on November 5th! Sign up to volunteer with NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia, then make sure you’re ready and registered to vote!
