“There’s one in the supermarket parking lot.”
“Wait, there’s one on the street outside the bank.”
“I saw too many to count at the state Capitol!”
Pretty soon, Virginians will be reminded to trust women and respect choice across the Commonwealth as the state DMV issues our pro-choice license plates!
Following our efforts in the General Assembly this spring, Virginia became one of only four states in the country to offer a pro-choice license plate. Since that time, we have anxiously awaited the arrival of the “Trust Women, Respect Choice” plates. This week, our friends at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia let us know the plates should be available from the DMV by December 1, 2010!
In addition to promoting reproductive choice in Virginia, $15 of the $25 cost of each plate will go to support the vital preventive reproductive health services offered by the Virginia League of Planned Parenthood, such as contraception, pap smears, and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment!
At least 350 pro-choice supporters pre-purchased plates over the summer. If you pre-ordered your plate, you can contact Carolyn Wade-Easley at the DMV at (804) 367-0368 with any questions. If you did not pre-order, don’t worry. The general public can purchase the plates from the DMV upon their release around December 1.
It looks like the plates will be ready in time for the holidays, which means we hope to see lots of pro-choice plates on the highways (possibly sitting in Virginia traffic) and in Richmond for the 2011 General Assembly session.
Thanks for all you do to support reproductive choice!
