Anti-choice Incumbent Spotlight: Lt. Governor Bill Bolling

bollingAs Virginia’s current Lt. Governor Bill Bolling boldly proclaims, he was responsible for “cast[ing] the tie-breaking vote against using taxpayer money to fund Planned Parenthood.” Not only did Bolling deny public funding to support reproductive health services but he’s proud to have taken resources from the women who need them the most. And he’s running for re-election this November!

Lt. Governor Bill Bolling’s record of anti-choice actions is far too excessive to ignore. Not only has Bolling cast anti-choice votes on 35 separate pieces of legislation, but he’s taken the lead and co-patroned 16 anti-choice bills in his time in office. Furthermore, Bolling has made a career out of advocating abstinence-only education, attempting to mandate a sex-ed curriculum that fails to reduce unintended pregnancies, and prevent sexually transmitted infections. Rather than pushing forward common-sense prevention, Bolling has pushed Virginia backwards.

Women, families, and Virginians at-large deserve better, much better.

That’s why NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC is proud to endorse Jody Wagner for Lt. Governor. With a firm belief in protecting reproductive rights, reducing the number of unintended pregnancies, and making birth control accessible, affordable, and comprehensive, Jody is just the candidate the Commonwealth needs when it comes to protecting women and families.

Bolling’s website declares, “Bill Bolling has stood strong for the values Virginians believe in.” But we know that taking money from low-income health service providers, forcing women to make decisions with biased and medically inaccurate information, and pushing abstinence-only education are not Virginian values. They’re Bolling values, and it’s time for them to go.
