Virginia Administrative Code
January 22 marks the 36th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade. NARAL Pro-Choice America is asking people to blog their answer to this question: What is your top pro-choice hope for President Obama and/or the new Congress?
We here at NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia are still riding high from President Obama’s amazing and historic victory, and we are full of optimism for all President Obama will do to protect reproductive rights and health. We have so much work to do to undo the disastrous policies of the last eight years–but what we are most looking forward to is the passage of the Prevention First Act.
The Prevention First Act is critical in the fight for reproductive freedom – and not just because it will begin to undo eight years of Bush’s anti-choice measures. The Prevention First Act promotes commonsense measures that will prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion – including access to contraception, medically accurate sex education, and promoting a culture that respects a woman’s autonomy in making private, personal decisions about her health.
Virginians want – and need – commonsense, common ground legislation like the Prevention First Act. And we’re working hard right now in Richmond to promote our own Prevention First agenda, which you can read about here. We look forward to working with federal and state legislators to herald in a new era for choice for Virginia!
